Beets With Apples In Special Sauce

Ingredients

- 1 (12 ounce) can sliced beets, , drained with liquid reserved
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice (fresh, if posible)
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon mrs. dash seasoning mix (or other sodium-free spice)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 tart green apple, peeled and sliced
Recipe
- 1 in a large skillet over medium heat, combine ¼ cup of the beet liquid, vinegar, lemon juice, salt, brown sugar and cornstarch; mix well.
- 2 cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and clear.
- 3 stir in beets and apple.
- 4 reduce heat to low and gently simmer for 15 minutes.
- 5 serve warm.
- 6 freeze leftovers.
