Flemish Carbonade (beer Meat)

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 2 lbs round steaks
  • 1 (12 ounce) can beer
  • 2 tablespoons oleo
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/2 cup canned beef broth

Recipe

  • 1 cut meat into 1" cubes.
  • 2 melt some fat from meat in skillet, throw rest of fat away. brown meat on both sides for 15 minutes. set aside.
  • 3 cook oleo and onions until golden.
  • 4 put meat into casserole, then onions. add seasoning and herbs. pour in beer, stir, then add cornstarch dissolved in broth, and sugar.
  • 5 bring to boil, stirring, then pour liquid over meat in casserole.
  • 6 cover and bake at 300 for 2 hours.
