Flemish Carbonade (beer Meat)

Ingredients

- 2 lbs round steaks
- 1 (12 ounce) can beer
- 2 tablespoons oleo
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 bay leaves
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1/2 cup canned beef broth
Recipe
- 1 cut meat into 1" cubes.
- 2 melt some fat from meat in skillet, throw rest of fat away. brown meat on both sides for 15 minutes. set aside.
- 3 cook oleo and onions until golden.
- 4 put meat into casserole, then onions. add seasoning and herbs. pour in beer, stir, then add cornstarch dissolved in broth, and sugar.
- 5 bring to boil, stirring, then pour liquid over meat in casserole.
- 6 cover and bake at 300 for 2 hours.
